Dendritic 'Basket' Necklace

115.00

A piece of translucent dendritic opal with patches of dendrites mimicking a forest is nestled inside of a fine silver serrated bezel, atop a sterling silver backplate and adorned with twist wire. My maker's mark and .925 are included on the back for authenticity. The pendant is complete by a sterling silver chain measuring approximately 9 inches long, bringing the entire necklace to around 10 1/2 inches in length. All jump rings are soldered closed for durability. The necklace was given a patina and brought to a soft, satin finish.

Also called Merlinite. This opal variety is termed "dendritic" due to its internal collection of dendrites. Dendrites are fern-like inclusions of iron, manganese, or other metallic oxides that create bold patterns within the gem. Typically, dendritic opals are cut into slices to best exhibit nature's artwork. As you might guess, these pieces are one-of-a-kinds, as no two dendritic patterns are exactly the same. Usually these opals are white, yellow, blue, green or pink and show the black inclusions well.
