firefly royston turquoise necklace

0.00

Solid sterling backplate and fine silver "wings," with a Royston turquoise center. There are two layers of sterling silver, all sawed out by hand. My maker's mark and .925 are stamped to a separate tag and included on the chain. A bail has been soldered to the back, with two jump rings and strung on an oxidized 8" chain. The whole necklace has been given a dark patina and then sanded to bring out the details in the wings.

The Royston mine is one of the last American mines in operation today. It comes from a district near Tonapah, Nevada. It originally consisted of four old turquoise mines: Bunker Hill, Easter Blue, Royal Blue and Oscar Wehrend. Royston is known for its beautiful colors, ranging from deep green, to rich light blues and a heavy matrix.
