winter forest ring {size 8.5}

0.00

This beautiful snowy white piece of dendritic opal with tree-like inclusions resembles a forest and is set within a fine silver bezel, twist rope wire, and a solid heavy duty 20 gauge sterling silver backplate. Complete with a split shank fitting a US size 8.5. Five hand-hammered ball details adorn the bottom of the ring. My maker's mark and .925 have been stamped to a separate tag and soldered to the bag. The ring has been given a dark patina, then sanded and buffed to highlight the details and brought to a matte finish.

Also called Merlinite. This opal variety is termed "dendritic" due to its internal collection of dendrites. Dendrites are fern-like inclusions of iron, manganese, or other metallic oxides that create bold patterns within the gem. Typically, dendritic opals are cut into slices to best exhibit nature's artwork. As you might guess, these pieces are one-of-a-kinds, as no two dendritic patterns are exactly the same. Usually these opals are white, yellow, blue, green or pink and show the black inclusions well.
