chiseled dendritic opal necklace

0.00

An opaque cut of Dendritic Opal resembling a snowy forest landscape sits within a fine silver serrated bezel, atop a chiseled 24 gauge sterling silver backplate. A bail is soldered to the back out of sight, as well as my maker's mark and .925 for authenticity. A 9" sterling silver chain is included. This pendant was given a dark patina and then brought to a soft, satin finish to highlight the stamp work.

Also called Merlinite. This opal variety is termed "dendritic" due to its internal collection of dendrites. Dendrites are fern-like inclusions of iron, manganese, or other metallic oxides that create bold patterns within the gem. Typically, dendritic opals are cut into slices to best exhibit nature's artwork. As you might guess, these pieces are one-of-a-kinds, as no two dendritic patterns are exactly the same. Usually these opals are white, yellow, blue, green or pink and show the black inclusions well.
