azurite w/ malachite & chrysocolla ring {size 7}

0.00

Inspired by the designs of vintage jewelry, this piece of Azurite with Malachite and Chrysocolla is set within sterling and fine silver. Hand-forged bead wire and hand-hammered ball accents surround the stone. My maker's mark with 925 is stamped to a tag and soldered to the back. This piece was given a black patina and then sanded and polished to bring out the details. A simple, lightweight floral band adorns the back, fitting a US size 7.

When in the Earth, Azurite can change to Malachite, so it is rare to find one stone without the other one present. Often, Chrysocolla (light green to sky blue color) is present as well. Chrysocolla is formed in the oxidation zone of copper deposits and is sometimes confused with Turquoise. Azurite is found mainly in North Africa, Australia, South America, Mexico and the American Southwest. Malachite is formed near copper ore deposits in the same areas as Azurite. It is rarely mistaken for a different green stone and is known for its agate-like bands. Chrysocolla is found worldwide, but is mostly mined in the American southwest, in the same locations as both Azurite and Malachite.
