Australian Opal Ring {size 9.5}

0.00

Two Australian opals reminiscent of oceans sit inside of fine silver scalloped bezels, atop a sterling silver backplate, flanked by hand crafted ball details. My maker's mark and .925 are stamped and soldered to the back for authenticity, complete with a comfortable ring shank best fitting a US size 9.5. The ring was given a final polish and brought to a satin finish to bring out the details.

The mines of Australia produce about 90% of the world's opals. Some of the famous mines include: Koroit, Coober Pedy, Mintabie, and Lightning Ridge. Gem-quality opals are one of the most spectacular minerals - they can flash colors from all over the spectrum. An opal doublet consists of a thin layer of opal and a thicker layer of backing. Often, this is done to aid in the lapidary and stone setting process, as opals are soft minerals.
